As music fans we're not going to comment on the Grammys because we don't feel it was about the music. What music? It wasn't always that way. Once the Grammies were criticized for being too stodgy, awarding musicals and pop during the early years of rock and roll. Somewhere along the line, around the mid-1980s things seemed to change, where now a veteran artist couldn't buy an award . Rather than go on,we'll refer you to Tommy De Seno's article , below. Will just say that if John Lennon were alive today we wonder if he would've gone on stage with the two remaining subservient beetles - for the reunion which, normally, would have and should have been the highlight of the night. According to some, it still was, considering the 'competition.' . Sorry to see them reuniting in the travesty they call the Grammy Awards today. And will leave it at that but something needed to be said - and now here's Tony's turn.
Death of culture in America, Grammy Award style
Must-see scenes from the 2014 Grammy Awards
In America we recognize grand achievements in popular culture by bestowing various awards upon artists. Sunday night at the musical Grammy Awards we honored the following triumphs in lyrical creativity reflective of our lofty artistic ideals:
From Macklemore’s "Thrift Shop":
Nah, walk up to the club like, "What up? I got a big c*ck!"
I'm so pumped about some sh*t from the thrift shop.
I'll take those flannel zebra jammies, second-hand, I rock that motherf*cker
The built-in onesie with the socks on that motherf*cker
I hit the party and they stop in that motherf*cker
From Jay-Z’s "Holy Grail":
Blue told me to remind you n*ggas
F*ck that sh*t y’all talkin' about
I'm the n*gga, caught up in all these lights and cameras
From Justin Timberlake’s "Suit & Tie":
I be on my suit and tie, sh*t tie, sh*t tie
I be on my suit and tie, sh*t tie, sh*t
So long as the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences is allowed to identify the apex of our musical talents, history will know that in 2014 we honored “c*cks” “motherf*ckers” and “sh*t.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Send in the clowns.
